Communications Programs
In Communications, we have two unique majors that combine academic and experience-based courses to create meaning and connection beyond the classroom.
Communication Studies
Communication shapes our sense of who we are and creates relationships with our families, communities, and co-workers. In Communication Studies, we investigate how we understand ourselves and the world.
Master critical communication competencies in speaking, writing, small group deliberation and interpersonal relationships. If you are interested in promoting social change or becoming a responsible professional leader, you belong in Communication Studies.
Communication Arts and Design Practice
This is a unique program that blends the strengths of our Communication Studies, Theatre & Performance, and Digital Arts programs. This major focuses on interdisciplinary meaning making, drawing on understanding communication, how to connect with audiences using storytelling, and digital design skills.
With a focus on communication design, students learn and practice effective communication in multiple modalities including digital sound and video, performance (theatre and/or public speaking), and interactive media. This major is designed to address the growing need for communicators who understand the rapid, far-reaching changes in our digital society and the demand for connection.
Digital Arts Communications Minor
In the DAC minor, you’ll learn to design, develop, and test media for both public and private sector organizations, ranging from the high-tech sector, to corporate communications, to the creative industries. Rooted in a hands-on, experiential learning environment, courses will deepen your knowledge of digital design theory and put that theory into practice under the supervision of professional designers and researchers.
